Parking/traffic information for 2014 KHSAA Gridiron Bowl Dec. 5-6

Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium at WKU will be the site for the 2014 Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl State Football Championships on Dec. 5-6.

Below is information on parking/traffic changes for the WKU campus community as well as parking/traffic/ticket information for those planning to attend the games. Ticket information

  • Individual game tickets are $11 for general admission. Reserved chair tickets are $15 each and $65 for all six sessions. To purchase tickets, contact the WKU ticket office at 1-800-5-BIGRED or buy online at www.wkusports.com. Tickets will be available at the stadium at 9:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday (Dec. 5-6).

Parking changes for WKU community

To accommodate and welcome those attending the games, parking near the stadium as well as the rear of the Creason Lot will be reserved for game patrons, KHSAA officials and media. Alternative parking arrangements for WKU permit holders affected by these changes are described below, and a map of public parking for the two-day event is available on this page.

Faculty/Staff Parking Changes

  • Parking Structure 1 Levels 1-3 (Faculty/Staff section) will be reserved for event parking both days (Dec. 5-6).
  • In addition, surface lots surrounding Diddle Arena, South Lawn Lot, Russellville Road Lot and on-street parking on Avenue of Champions will be reserved for the event.
  • Alternate parking is available at the Alumni Square Garage for the first 190 faculty/staff permit holders. The Topper Transit Red Line stops at the Augenstein Alumni Center on Center Street and provides transportation to buildings up and down State & Normal streets.
  • You may also park at other faculty/staff lots throughout campus as space is available — Service Supply Lot, Adams Street Lot, Kentucky Street Paved Lot

Housing Parking Changes

  • The following Housing areas will be reserved for event use: The rear of Creason Lot (beyond the e-phone) will be reserved for bus and RV parking; the on-street parking on Avenue of Champions between the South Lawn Lot and the Poland Lot will be reserved for event use.
  • Vehicles must be removed from the reserved sections by 7:30 a.m. Friday (Dec. 5); vehicles remaining after 7:30 a.m. Friday may be issued a $35 fine and relocated.
  • Alternate parking is available in other Housing Lots or Commuter Lots on campus.
  • Levels 4-7 of PS1 will remain open for Housing permit holders.

Commuter Parking Changes

  • Parking Structure 2 and the rear of Creason Lot will be reserved exclusively for event parking.
  • Vehicles remaining in the reserved section of Creason Lot after 7:30 a.m. Friday (Dec. 5) will be fined $35 and relocated.
  • For Dec. 5, all student permits will be honored in all student Commuter or Housing lots.
  • Alternate parking is also available in Park and Ride Lots at South Campus or the Downtown Parking Garage at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and College Street.

Transit Park and Ride Information

  • South Campus: White Line route provides service every 6-8 minutes to main campus from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. Green Line continues service to South Campus until 10 p.m.
  • Downtown Garage: Red Line route provides service every 10-12 minutes to main campus.
  • Note: Please allow an additional 30 minutes to reach your destination using park and ride service.

Campus Traffic Changes

  • For event safety, Avenue of Champions will be closed to through traffic at 9 a.m. Dec. 5-6. Only event traffic, University vehicles and disability permits will be allowed through. As a result, there will be no access to the Poland Lot or Avenue of Champions Housing Parking during the events. Levels 4-7 of PS1 will remain open for Housing permit holders.
  • After each football game, WKU Police will control numerous intersections to divert event traffic off campus. Plan to use State and Normal streets to access campus.

Parking for those attending the games

With thousands of fans expected on campus over the two days, traffic on and around campus will be more congested than usual. Guests are being directed to use University Boulevard to access event parking lots.

Event parking

  • Parking Structure 1 and 2 ($10) will be used for paid public parking all day Dec. 5 and Dec. 6. Free parking will be available in the Creason Lot, Adams Street Lot, Kentucky Street Lot, Chestnut Street South Lot and University Boulevard Lot. Tailgating will not be allowed in any of the WKU lots.
  • Disability parking will be available in Parking Structure 2 first floor.
  • RV parking will be in the rear of the Creason Lot.
  • The surface lots around Diddle Arena, as well as the South Lawn Lot and Russellville Road Lot, will be reserved parking for KHSAA officials and media.

Event Traffic

  • Avenue of Champions will be closed to through traffic beginning at 9 a.m. each day. Event traffic will be allowed in. (More: Bus loading/unloading map.)
  • After each game, WKU Police will control numerous intersections to divert event traffic off campus. Traffic exiting PS2 will be directed north onto University Boulevard to Kentucky Street. Traffic exiting PS1 will be directed east onto College Heights Boulevard.
