“Thank you for your service,” said Student Veterans of America Chief Executive Officer D. Wayne Robinson. “In recognition of your outstanding contributions, we are proud to honor you as chapter of the month. You have done an excellent job representing Student Veterans of America. Our organization shines through you.”

Student Veterans of America is a national organization that includes more than 1,100 chapters throughout the United States. SVA was officially incorporated in 2008 to provide programs, resources and support to local student veteran organizations.

“The entire WKU community is very proud of our chapter for winning this prestigious award,” said Student Veterans Alliance Advisor Rick Wright. “It’s very impressive to know that WKU was the No. 1 SVA chapter in the country for the month of November. This achievement reflects very positively on the caliber of our student veterans and the quality of our veteran friendly campus.”

Philip Parsons, secretary and recruiter for the WKU Student Veterans Alliance said: “The veterans that are part of this organization mirror the values of the military to include honor, personal courage and selfless service. It is with great honor that we accept this award and we will continue to strive for excellence.”

WKU’s student veterans group affiliated with the Student Veterans of America in 2010. Currently, the group has 46 dues-paying members. The mission of the WKU Student Veterans Alliance is to provide military veterans with the resources, support and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation. The local chapter offers student veterans many services including a vet-to-vet mentoring program, networking opportunities with community partners and veteran specific seminars. In addition, WKU’s SVA advocates for positive changes on campus and engages student veterans in a variety of academic and social programs.

The vision of the WKU Student Veterans Alliance is that all veterans will succeed in higher education, achieve their academic goals and gain meaningful employment.
