WKU hosting Ohio Valley History Conference Oct. 10-12

WKU will host the 29^th annual Ohio Valley History Conference Thursday-Saturday (Oct. 10-12) at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green.

Dr. James C. Klotter, state historian of Kentucky and professor of history at Georgetown College, will deliver the keynote address “Is Kentucky Southern?” at a banquet at 7 p.m. Friday.

Dr. Klotter received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Kentucky and has honorary degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and Union College. He is the author, co-author or editor of more than a dozen books. Dr. Klotter was also an associate editor of the Kentucky Encyclopedia and was the Executive Director of the Kentucky Historical Society for many years until his retirement.

The conference, sponsored by WKU’s History Department, will feature sessions and panel discussions on Friday and Saturday. The event concludes at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

Session topics include Race Issues in Kentucky, Consequences of the Civil War, Teaching Kentucky History, From the New Deal to the Great Society, Roundtable on Asian History, Gender and Women’s History, Modern Military History, Economic and Business History, Politics Past and Present, and The Ancient World.

Presenters include faculty members from WKU, Eastern Kentucky University, Murray State University, Morehead State University, University of Kentucky, Northern Kentucky University, Madisonville Community College, Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Alice Lloyd College, Filson Historical Society, Austin Peay State University, Vanderbilt University, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, University of Missouri, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Ohio State University, Francis Marion University, Christian Brothers University, Tennessee Technological University, MacMurray College, East Tennessee State University, Carson-Newman University, Middle Tennessee State University, Belmont University, Volunteer State Community College, Kansas State University, Longwood University, Bowling Green State University, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Glenville State College, Marshall University and Dalton State College.
