WKU in the News

  • Small Business Development Center earns award after record year: When Debra Dudley came up with ideas for new products at her Bonnieville-based Oscarware Inc. back in 2012, she was at first stymied by lack of financing. Bankers, it seemed, weren’t sold on the idea that new attachments adding versatility to outdoor grills would find a ready market. Five years later, Dudley is the newly minted Kentucky Small Business Person of the Year and runner-up for the National Business Person of the Year award. Her secret? Help from the Small Business Development Center in the WKU Center for Research and Development on Nashville Road. She credits the center’s director, Miller Slaughter, with helping her navigate the financing maze and other obstacles she had to overcome.
  • Kentucky Science Center partners to promote girls in STEM: Kentucky Science Center, along with the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and SkyTeach at WKU will be hosting a full-day of STEM-focused sessions for girls in the Kentucky area on Oct. 21 at WKU.
  • WKU aiming for third straight win when it hosts Charlotte on Saturday: WKU closes the first half of the season at 3:30 p.m. Saturday when it welcomes in winless Charlotte. The first five games of the year have provided a bushel of ups and downs for a WKU team (3-2, 1-1 Conference USA) still searching for an identity and a convincing win against an FBS opponent. Perhaps that will change during homecoming week on The Hill.
