WKU Sports

  • WKU Football vs. Illinois on Saturday Night: The day before WKU Football buses up north to Champaign to take on Illinois, the Hilltoppers continued their practice week with “No-Sweat Thursday” and head coach Mike Sanford addressed the media who gathered at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The Toppers and Fighting Illini kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday; the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network and will air on the Hilltopper IMG Sports Network. More: Game notes

WKU Volleyball hosts the Holiday Inn University Plaza Hotel Invitational today and Saturday at Diddle Arena.

  • WKU Volleyball to Host Home Tournament This Weekend: Sweeping its last two opponents, WKU Volleyball is back on track and ready to host this weekend’s Holiday Inn University Plaza Hotel Invitational today and Saturday from Diddle Arena. WKU is welcoming East Tennessee State, Pittsburgh and Saint Louis to town for six total matches that will span two days.

WKU Soccer will host Vanderbilt and Samford this weekend.

  • WKU Soccer to Host Vanderbilt, Samford to Close Non-Conference Play: WKU will host a pair of matches at the WKU Soccer Complex this weekend, first welcoming SEC foe Vanderbilt at 6 p.m. on Friday evening before closing its non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m against Samford, the final match of the Lady Toppers’ current four-match homestand.
  • Hilltoppers Open Golf Season at Wolf Run Intercollegiate: WKU redshirt junior Billy Tom Sargent knows that perfection is unattainable in the game of golf. “With golf, you can never be as good as you can be,” Sargent said. “There’s always potential and you can always grow from it, so I just want to keep growing as a player.” The next step in that growth for Sargent and his Hilltopper Golf teammates takes place this weekend, as WKU begins the 2017-18 season at Indiana’s Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

WKU in the News

  • Prospective Hilltoppers get a sneak peek at WKU Glasgow campus: Prospective Hilltoppers were given an opportunity Thursday afternoon to see what it might be like to become a WKU Glasgow student.
  • Tops trek north to Illinois looking for big-time win: On a cool Saturday night, in a less-than-full Memorial Stadium in the heart of Champaign, Ill., the WKU football program will try to take the next step in its evolution. The Hilltoppers (1-0) are favored – and rightly so – against Illinois. They’ve won 29 times in their last 34 outings and 54 times since the 2011 season kicked off. They’ve won three straight bowl games and back-to-back Conference USA championships. But they still aspire to be considered among the game’s elite. Beating an Illinois squad (1-0) – even one mired in the depths of rebuilding – will go a long way in cementing that WKU is indeed for real.
