  • Col. Terry W. Wilcutt

    #ThrowbackWKU: Col. Terry W. Wilcutt: Throwing it back today with the WKU Alumni Association! Today, we’re spotlighting a very special alum. Col. Terry W. Wilcutt (’74) is the first Kentucky-born astronaut at NASA. The former Marine Corps officer piloted the October 1994 Space Shuttle Endeavor, is a veteran of four Space Shuttle missions and logged more than 1,000 hours in space.

  • WKU Admissions hosting events for prospective students & their families: WKU is taking its DiscoverWKU events across the United States this fall. Events are coming up Tuesday in Huntsville, Alabama; Sept. 7 in northern Kentucky; and Sept. 12 in Lexington. Register online at http://www.wku.edu/discoverwku/

  • Volleyball: Lady Toppers Open 2017 at Miami (OH) Invitational: Following a healthy and successful preseason training camp, WKU Volleyball is headed for opening weekend of the 2017 season at the Miami (OH) Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational. The Lady Toppers will take the court twice today, with matches slated for 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT from Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio, playing Southern Illinois and Miami (OH), respectively. Weekend play will conclude for the Red and White following a Saturday matchup with Northern Arizona at 8:30 a.m. CT.
  • Soccer: WKU Visits Austin Peay Tonight, Hosts UT Martin in Home Opener Sunday: After splitting a pair of matches in its opening weekend of play, WKU will round out a three-match road trip at Austin Peay on Friday evening at 7 p.m. before returning to the friendly confines of the WKU Soccer Complex for its 2017 home opener against UT Martin on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. As with all home matches this season, admission will be free for all fans for Sunday afternoon’s bout.

  • WKU program combines bingo and exercise for health benefits: A WKU program that combines bingo and exercise for elderly people has been shown to have research-tested improvements to physical health, cognitive skills and social engagement.

  • WKU Glasgow’s Breazeale receives sustainability award: Nicole Breazeale, associate professor of sociology at WKU Glasgow, recently received the seventh annual President’s Award for Sustainability, which honors an individual who exhibits excellence in supporting WKU’s commitment to sustainability. “I was very excited and honored,” Breazeale said. “I just want to say how grateful I am to have landed at WKU and at the Glasgow campus, and how proud I am to be associated with the students and faculty there and in the community.”
  • WKU’s close-knit offensive line looking to uphold standard of past teams: WKU first-year coach Mike Sanford quipped earlier this preseason that his offensive line could be seen everywhere around town together. He painted the picture of the team’s five starters even walking down the road in formation – from left tackle to right tackle.
