WKU Professor of Music John Cipolla was presented with a distinguished alumni award by the administration and faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Dr. Cipolla received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UNCG. Each year, the UNCG College of Visual and Performing Arts invites one distinguished alumnus from each of the four schools – art, music, theatre and dance – to the campus to be honored and to interact with the UNCG community.
Dr. Cipolla, a clarinetist, was chosen as this year’s music recipient, and as part of his visit, he gave a masterclass for the clarinet studio on Nov. 4. In the class, Dr. Cipolla focused on clarinet fundamentals that he teaches on a daily basis as a professor of clarinet and saxophone at WKU – sound, finger movement and phrasing. He also talked about his experience of being a musician for Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the past 32 years.
