WKU recognized at United Way awards ceremony

More than 230 southern Kentucky residents joined United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK) for the LIVE UNITED Awards and Annual Meeting on Thursday (Feb. 2) at WKU’s Knicely Conference Center.

WKU faculty, staff and students attending the United Way awards included (from left) Dr. Charley Pride, Katie Frazier, Imari Hazelwood, Dr. Kenneth Crawford, Mindy Johnson, Allie Sharp, Brad Wheeler, Lexi Ratterman, Ashlee Manley, Katie Beth McIntosh, Brian Kuster, Veronica Lopez and Shelby Wade.

The evening served to recognize the triumphs of organizations that excelled in furthering the mission of United Way of Southern Kentucky in 2016. Forty awards were presented during the celebration to individuals and organizations representing Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Simpson and Warren counties.

WKU received the following awards:

  • Volunteer Investment Awards: WKU was among the top organizations with the largest percentage of employees volunteering in multiple United Way functions.
  • Top 10 Campaigns: WKU was No. 6 for overall corporate and employee giving in 2016.
  • Student Organizations: WKU Student United Way was  recognized for its overall efforts throughout the year.

Mindy Johnson, Assistant Director of Student Activities, and Dr. Kenneth Crawford, Associate Dean of Ogden College of Science & Engineering, served as the 2016 co-chairs for the WKU United Way Campaign.
