Soundings: An Interdisciplinary Journal is affiliated with the SVHE, a fellowship of teachers and others who care deeply about ethical issues—such as integrity, diversity, social justice, and civic responsibility—that face higher education and the wider society. WKU serves the host of the international office of the SVHE.

Soundings, which is publishing its 100th volume in 2017, will be led by a three-person team of WKU faculty members — Dr. Eric Bain-Selbo, head of WKU’s Department of Philosophy and Religion and executive director of the SVHE; Dr. Jane Fife, associate professor of English; and Dr. Anthony Harkins, associate professor of History and director of Popular Culture Studies.

Soundings started in 1917 as The American College Bulletin. It became Christian Education in 1919 then The Christian Scholar in 1953. The Society for Values in Higher Education took over operations of the journal and in 1968 gave the journal the name Soundings. With that final change, the journal went from a publication focused exclusively on Christian education and theology to one that is now interdisciplinary and concerned broadly with deep reflection on human value and expression. Soundings is published by Pennsylvania State University Press. The journal’s editorial operation had been hosted by Florida State University since 2011.
