Scott Lyons appointed Dean of Graduate School at WKU

WKU Provost David Lee announced the appointment of Scott Lyons as Dean of the Graduate School.

A faculty member in the School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport since 2004, Dr. Lyons came to WKU after completing his doctorate in Human Performance/Exercise Physiology at the University of Alabama. A recipient of the College of Health and Human Services Awards for Excellence in Advising and for Excellence in Research, Dr. Lyons has served as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health and Human Services and currently serves as the Director of the School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport. He has also participated in the Management Development Program at Harvard University.

“Graduate education is central to the mission of WKU,” Dr. Lee said, “and the university has several important initiatives underway in this regard. As Dean, Scott will work with programs across campus to expand our opportunities in graduate education. I’m delighted that Scott is taking on this important leadership role.”

“Scott is an accomplished faculty member with excellent leadership experience,” said President Gary A. Ransdell. “He is well-prepared to provide leadership for our outstanding graduate program. We look to him to lead the way in growing our graduate enrollment.”

“I am very happy and excited to be the person chosen to lead the WKU Graduate School,” Dr. Lyons said. “I would like to thank the search committee, the WKU faculty, the Graduate School staff and Provost Lee for their faith and confidence in me and for entrusting me with this important responsibility. I have been highly involved in graduate education since I arrived at WKU in 2004. I am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity and I am eager to get started.”

Dr. Lyons will begin serving as Dean of the Graduate School Jan. 1.
