Officials from Bowling Green and Warren County will join WKU in celebrating Wednesday (Oct. 5) as Safe Communities America Day with a proclamation signing at 9 a.m. at City Hall.

WKU was the fourth university in the United States and the third community in Kentucky to be accredited as a Safe Community by the National Safety Council.

In the U.S., injuries are the leading cause of death for people ages 1-44 and the third leading cause of death overall behind heart disease and cancer. The Safe Communities America network consists of communities that have met accreditation criteria and demonstrated leadership in safety promotion and injury prevention, and each community has made an investment to ensure that their community is a safe place to live, work and visit.
