The Office of Study Away is preparing for Summer 2016 and will offer nearly 30 Study Away and Faculty Led Study Abroad (FLSA) courses taught by WKU faculty. The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA), which the Office of Study Away administers, will also offer unique courses taught by faculty from CCSA member institutions.
This summer, Study Away will offer Citizen & Self in San Francisco, Theatre in Chicago, The Kentucky Experience, WKU Choir Performance at Carnegie Hall in NYC and the Charlotte 2016 Sport Facility Symposium. Study Away will also partner with Dual Credit again to offer the Dual Credit in NYC program.
More than 20 FLSA courses will also be available, including courses in Argentina, Greece, Iceland, Italy, South Africa and others, including new courses in Barbados and Morocco.
Through the CCSA, students will have the opportunity to study in Australia, Belize, Ireland, London or South Africa. The application deadline for May and early June courses is Monday (Feb. 29). The application deadline for the late June and July courses is April 15. For information on how to save $100 through early registration, visit ccsa.cc/payments.
Jerry Barnaby, director of Study Away and CCSA executive director, said travel programs like these give students a unique opportunity.
“When students study outside the typical campus setting, they are able to experience what they learn rather than simply hearing about it,” Barnaby said. “These types of courses allow WKU students to not only learn something new, but to apply what they have learned in the classroom. They offer a unique, hands-on understanding that students can only get by experiencing it.”
