On Tuesday (Jan. 19), WKU PBS will begin filming a video that will be used to help prepare the campus community for a violent event, such as an active shooter. Filming will begin at 9 a.m. outside of Mass Media & Technology Hall.
We will be filming scenes showing WKU Police Department approaching the building as if a shooting had taken place as well as scenes inside the lobby. The goal is to finish this session before noon. Traffic on Normal Drive may be detoured for short periods that morning.
We do not want to create a panic, but this is a necessary step in the development of a training program that we hope will make our campus community safer. While we certainly hope this training never has to be used, we want to provide our faculty, staff and students with the tools to recognize potential problems and react in ways to increase their chances of survival should something happen.
