SACSCOC reaffirms accreditation for WKU

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Board of Trustees has reaffirmed accreditation for WKU. The action was announced by SACSCOC Tuesday (Dec. 8) at the board’s open business meeting.

“Official accreditation reaffirmation is very important in the life of any college or university,” WKU President Gary A. Ransdell said. “Congratulations to all of the faculty and staff who worked so hard over the last couple of years to achieve this milestone, but special appreciation goes out to Dr. Gordon Emslie who oversaw this rigorous process. His drive and attention to detail led the way.”

Every 10 years, each university in the southern region must submit a request for reaffirmation of accreditation by SACSCOC. In addition to providing an affirmation of quality, regional accreditation is needed for students to be eligible for federal financial aid.

“This strong reaffirmation from our accrediting body highlights the quality of the WKU experience for our students,” WKU Provost David Lee said. “Thanks to the faculty, staff and all the members of the WKU community who have made this possible.”

This review requires the university to demonstrate compliance with more than 90 Principles, including 15 Core Requirements, 11 Federal requirements, and a number of Comprehensive Standards. That documentation equates to more than 400 printed pages with some 5,000 links to supporting documents.
