Parking/traffic information for Dec. 3-6 events at WKU

WKU will be hosting the Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl, the Conference USA championship game and several other events on campus Thursday night (Dec. 3) through Sunday (Dec. 6). WKU Parking and Transportation Services has provided information about parking, road closings and traffic control for the weekend’s events. (Note: All times Central)

Weekend event highlights

Conference USA championshipcusa-championship

  • WKU vs. Southern Mississippi at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5) at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased online or by calling 1-800-5-BIG-RED or visiting the WKU Ticket Office from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Friday (Dec. 4); students with a valid WKU ID will be able to present their ID and get into the championship game for free. Other campus events

  • WKU Department of Theatre and Dance will present its Children’s Theatre production of The Emperor’s New Clothes at 4 p.m. Friday (Dec. 4), 3 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 5) and 3 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 6) at the Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre.
  • WKU Forensics will host the Junior Hilltopper Classic on Saturday (Dec. 5) at Garrett Conference Center. Expect buses and traffic congestion on the Hill.
  • The Kentucky Museum will host its annual Christmas in Kentucky at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5). Free public parking will be reserved in the Kentucky Street Lot.
  • Lady Topper basketball will face Austin Peay at 4 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 5) at Diddle Arena. Paid public parking in PS1 and PS2 is $10. More: Women’s Basketball Event Parking map; basketball event parking update.
  • The Symphony at WKU will present It’s Yule Time! at 3 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 6) at Van Meter Hall. Lots around Van Meter Hall — Potter, Old Fort, Hilltop Drive, Hub Lot, College Hill Lot — will be reserved. More: Symphony Event Parking map.

Here’s an update from WKU Parking and Transportation Services about parking, road closings and traffic control for the football games and other events.

Thursday (Dec. 3)

  • KHSAA Class 1A Football Championship. Beechwood vs. Pikeville at 7 p.m. Parking lots reserved beginning at 3 p.m. – surface lots around Diddle Arena, South Lawn Lot, Parking Structure 1 Levels 1-3 (all WKU Permits will be honored in PS1), Parking Structure 2, rear of Creason Lot (vehicles remaining after 1 p.m. will be fined $35 and relocated). Paid public parking in PS1 and PS2 is $10 and will begin at 4 p.m. More: Thursday KHSAA Event Parking map

Saturday (Dec. 5)

  • Road and Lot Closings: Avenue of Champions will be closed from 7 a.m. to midnight; College Heights Boulevard will close at Colonnade Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and downhill traffic will detour onto Colonnade Drive; parking lots reserved all day – surface lots around Diddle Arena and South Lawn Lot, Parking Structure 1 Levels 1-3, Parking Structure 2, Avenue of Champions on-street parking (vehicles remaining after 7 a.m. will be fined $35 and relocated) and rear of Creason Lot (vehicles remaining after 7 a.m. will be fined $35 and relocated); parking lots reserved part of the day — Kentucky Street Lot from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a portion of Gated Regents from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Conference USA Championship. WKU vs. Southern Mississippi at 11 a.m. More: C-USA game tailgating map.
  • Traffic control following the C-USA game will be in place from the start of the fourth quarter (approximately 2:15 p.m.) until 3:30 p.m. at the latest. More: Alternate Campus Access map.

  • KHSAA Class 5A Football Championship. Bowling Green vs. Pulaski County at 8 p.m. Paid public parking in PS1 and PS2 is $10 and will begin at 3 p.m. More: Saturday KHSAA Event Parking map.

Sunday (Dec. 6)

  • Road and Lot Closings: Avenue of Champions will be closed from 11 a.m. to midnight; parking lots reserved all day – surface lots around Diddle Arena and South Lawn Lot, Parking Structure 1 Levels 1-3, Parking Structure 2, Avenue of Champions on-street parking (vehicles remaining after 7 a.m. will be fined $35 and relocated) and rear of Creason Lot (vehicles remaining after 7 a.m. will be fined $35 and relocated); parking lots typically reserved for the Symphony at WKU (Potter, Old Fort, Hilltop Drive, Hub Lot, College Hill Lot) will be reserved from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • KHSAA Class 2A Football Championship. Mayfield vs. Newport Central Catholic at 1 p.m. Paid public parking in PS1 and PS2 is $10 and will begin at 10:30 a.m. More: Sunday KHSAA Event Parking map.
  • The Symphony at WKU. It’s Yule Time! at 3 p.m. at Van Meter Hall. Parking lots around Van Meter Hall — Potter, Old Fort, Hilltop Drive, Hub Lot, College Hill Lot — will be reserved. More: Symphony Event Parking map.
