Chili’s set to open near WKU’s Augenstein Alumni Center

Chili’s® Grill & Bar will fire up the grill and open its doors for the first time at WKU in Bowling Green in January 2016.

chilisOperated by Aramark Higher Education, this is the first Chili’s location in Bowling Green and the first located on a university campus in Kentucky.

Chili’s Grill & Bar will be located between the Augenstein Alumni Center and the adjacent parking structure in close proximity to the Hyatt Place of Bowling Green. The WKU Foundation attained ownership of the property in February and has since reviewed numerous options for the development of this retail wrap space. The total structure to be developed will be approximately 7,000 square feet under roof. In addition to Chili’s Grill & Bar, the WKU Foundation via a single member development entity, WKU Alumni Square Development, LLC, will develop additional space for office and/or retail business.

Craig Browning, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the WKU Foundation, noted, “We are extremely excited that this final phase of development in Block 12 of the TIF District will soon be moving forward. The construction of this facility, the inclusion of a Chili’s restaurant, and development of the State Farm Courtyard are all welcomed additions to the campus community and the market in general. We are thankful for Aramark’s significant investment in this project and our community.”

“Chili’s will be a great addition to the campus and broader Bowling Green restaurant scene. I want to thank the WKU Foundation and Aramark for making this happen. I’m delighted that it’s located next to the Augenstein Alumni Center with plenty of parking in the adjoining structure,” said WKU President Gary Ransdell. “No doubt it will quickly become a favorite of WKU students, faculty, staff, alumni — and restaurant patrons across the region.”

“We have an enthusiastic, energetic team eager to serve guests looking for delicious food and drink in a fun and relaxing setting,” said Steve Hoyng of Aramark Higher Education. “We’re excited to bring Chili’s Fresh Tex and Fresh Mex favorites to students and the community at large at this wonderful new location on the edge of Western Kentucky University’s campus.”

The restaurant, which represents the latest Chili’s prototype currently in development, brings more than 75 jobs to the WKU campus family and the TIF District. The restaurant will be approximately 4,500 square feet and seat 160 guests.

The menu offers a variety of fresh spins on America’s favorites while staying true to Chili’s Fresh Tex and Fresh Mex roots with highlights including Tableside Guacamole, White Spinach Queso, Sizzling Fajitas, Hand-Crafted Burgers and Baby Back Ribs.
