The Office of Scholar Development at WKU is sponsoring a “Day of Workshops” on Sept. 23 in Downing Student Union, room 2123, to raise campus awareness of nationally competitive scholarships and other opportunities for research, creative work and professional development.
“Day of Workshops” provides an opportunity for students to quickly learn about several programs and application processes and meet fellowship advisors, Dr. Audra Jennings, director of the Office of Scholar Development; Dr. Melinda Grimsley-Smith, coordinator of international scholarships; and Cheryl Kirby-Stokes, coordinator of nationally competitive opportunities.
Rotating 15-minute workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Social justice and community engagement scholarships
- Summer research opportunities in the sciences
- Study abroad scholarships
- Opportunities for critical language study abroad
“We know that there is no end to the potential in the WKU student body to be competitive for national awards,” Dr. Jennings said. “This event, which we do every semester, is about reaching out to as many students as possible to help them see their own potential and learn how to navigate application processes to boost their chances of success.”
“Day of Workshops” was devised to address scholarships with upcoming deadlines and fit the needs of students taking a full course load and participating in multiple extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to drop in as their schedule permits. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.
