Plans are underway for the 2015 Big Red’s Blitz day of service at WKU to take place Aug. 20. Student volunteers have started registering to participate, and the WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships welcomes nonprofits to organize a project for the day.
For the 11th year, the WKU ALIVE CCP and WKU Housing and Residence Life have planned the Big Red’s Blitz event that brings out more than 300 new students to WKU. Last year, 324 student volunteers served with 33 organizations for the day.
Housing and Residence Life opened volunteer registration to students in April, and they plan to recruit 400 students to volunteer this year. With 400 volunteers, the need for volunteer opportunities has also increased.
Community Partners interested in hosting a project can register until Aug. 1. Organizations that partner for Big Red’s Blitz receive volunteer services for up to four hours, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Partners have the opportunity to share information and promote their organizations.
Big Red’s Blitz projects can cater to the volunteer needs of the organization. Previous projects include painting, landscaping, crafting, gardening, working with animals, and special event setup. Interested organizations can view more information and register online at http://www.wku.edu/alive/meaningful-service/big_reds_blitz.php.
The WKU ALIVE CCP is committed to bringing campus and community together for the enrichment of both higher education and public life. The Center facilitates collaborative efforts that address local, regional, and global needs while enhancing the level of student learning and educational experience.
