Students from WKU’s chapter of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development attended the 70th ASCD Annual National Conference March 20-23 in Houston, Texas.
Attendees included ASCD chapter officers Philip Russell of Valparaiso, Indiana, President; Rachel Givens of McHenry, Vice President; and Shannon Carter of Monticello, Secretary, along with chapter advisor, Dr. Rebecca Stobaugh.
ASCD is a student professional development organization that equips pre-service teachers with pedagogy and strategies, but provides experience beyond its seminars.
During the national conference WKU students attended seminars, interacted with teachers and administrators from around the country, and networked with colleagues – all of which will allow them to gain new strategies and skills to implement in their future classrooms.
Dr. Stobaugh and Russell conducted a presentation with demonstrations using kinesthetic learning and critical thinking. The WKU students also presented an Ignite! presentation on teacher accountability along with a short presentation on the WKU student chapter of ASCD.
