OSHA safety courses will begin in April in Owensboro thanks to a partnership between WKU and EKU.
Eastern Kentucky University houses the only OSHA Training Institute Education Center in Kentucky and is only one of 27 centers in the United States. With WKU’s Division of Extended Learning and Outreach and EKU’s OSHA Training Institute Education Center’s agreement, EKU outreach trainers will lead OSHA training courses at the WKU Owensboro campus.
“We are very pleased to provide this important OSHA training to the Owensboro area through the new partnership with EKU,” said WKU Owensboro Regional Chancellor, Dr. Gene Tice. “The Owensboro campus of WKU is committed to meeting the needs of this community and this training is just one more example of our commitment.”
WKU Career and Workforce Development (CWD) Program Managers Leslie Witty and Dr. Sue Parrigin coordinate the program at WKU and oversee contracts for businesses within their respective regions.
Witty said CWD has strong partnerships with businesses and industries throughout the WKU service area. “We continually provide a variety of high-quality professional development programs that enhance workforce skills and improve the workplace environment,” Witty said. “OSHA training is extremely important, and this partnership allows us to add an entirely new element to our program.”
“We are extremely excited to partner with EKU to provide this additional high-quality program and look forward to expanding this partnership even further in the future,” said Dr. Parrigin. She said the partnership will expand opportunities to meet essential workforce training needs in the region.
Classes begin next month in the Badgett Conference Center on the WKU Owensboro campus, located at 4821 New Hartford Road.
