Dr. Alison Kafer, Associate Professor and Chair of Feminist Studies at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, will present Crip Futures, Future Coalitions: Disability & Social Justice on April 2 at WKU.
Her presentation is the final event in the WKU Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility’s spring 2015 Social Justice Speaker Series, focusing on the theme of Social Justice & Coalition Building.
Dr. Kafer will offer strategies for engaging disability and justice issues with a broader orientation toward coalition building. The presentation will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Downing Student Union, room 3020, with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Kafer is the author of Feminist Queer Crip (Indiana University Press, 2013) and co-editor of Growing Disability Studies, a special issue of Disability Studies Quarterly (Spring 2014). Her work on disability, gender and sexuality has appeared in a number of anthologies, including Sex and Disability (Duke University Press, 2012) and Feminist Disability Studies (Indiana University Press, 2011). She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Disability Studies and worked with Generations Ahead, a nonprofit working “to expand the public debate and promote policies on genetic technologies that protect human rights.”
