26 selected for 2015-16 Cherry Presidential Scholarship

cherry2015WKU has selected 26 students as recipients of the 2015-16 Cherry Presidential Scholarship, the school’s most prestigious academic award.

The scholarship is valued at more than $16,800 annually and worth more than $67,000 during a four-year period.

The students were among 68 applicants who visited WKU on Feb. 6 for activities that included an impromptu writing exercise and an interview. In addition to demonstrating outstanding scholastic achievement at the secondary level, applicants submitted personal statements, essays and letters of recommendation as part of the selection process. The recipients had an average GPA of 3.97 and an average ACT score of 32.2. There are 17 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars and two National Merit Semifinalists in the group of recipients.

The 2015-16 Cherry Presidential Scholarship recipients are as follows:

  • Beth Anne Akers of Crestwood, a senior at South Oldham High School whose parents are Steve and Maggie Akers. She is undecided on a major.
  • Morgan Aldridge of Louisville, a senior at Dorothy Sayers Classical Academy whose parents are Steve and Kelly Aldridge. She plans to major in Secondary English Education.
  • Brian Anderson of Buffalo, a senior at LaRue County High School whose parents are Heath and Kim Anderson. He plans to major in Asian Religious and Cultural Studies.
  • Reilly Boone of Shelbyville, a senior at Martha Layne Collins High School whose parents are David and Michelle Boone. She plans to major in Biology.
  • Andi Dahmer of Fisherville, a senior at DuPont Manual High School whose parents are Ann Coffey and Steve Dahmer. She plans to major in International Business.
  • Daniel Daugherty of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, a senior at Huntsville High School whose parents are Kim Daugherty and Susan Daugherty. He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Thomas Deaton of Elizabethtown, a senior at Elizabethtown High School whose parents are Glenn and Ange Deaton. He is undecided on a major.
  • Nina Erbes of Louisville, a senior at Saint Francis High School whose parents are Scott and Stephanie Erbes. She plans to major in Biology.
  • Ethan Evans of Bowling Green, a senior at South Warren High School whose parents are Tim Evans and Eileen Starr. He plans to major in Biology.
  • Hannah Gibbs of London, a senior at South Laurel High School whose parents are Roger and Teressa Gibbs. She plans to major in English.
  • Darcy Gleeson of Prospect, a senior at Sacred Heart Academy whose parents are Shane and Marie Gleeson. She is undecided on a major.
  • Vanessa Gregorchik of Louisville, a senior at DuPont Manual High School whose parents are Chris and Kira Gregorchik. She plans to major in Journalism.
  • Kayla Hazel of Auburn, a senior at Logan County High Schools whose parent is Michelle Thomason. She plans to major in Biology.
  • Elaine Holmes of Louisville, a senior at Atherton High School whose parents are Steven and Ann Holmes. She is undecided on a major.
  • Bryce Holmgren of Roland, Iowa, a senior at Roland-Story High School whose parents are Kyle and Amy Holmgren. She plans to major in Biology and Spanish.
  • Delaney Holt of Burlington, a senior at Randall K. Cooper High School whose parents are Darrell and Monique Holt. She plans to major in Secondary English Education.
  • Emily Houston of Winchester, a senior at George Rogers Clark High School whose parents are Kevin Houston and Nora Burton. She plans to major in English.
  • Jessica Johnson of Clarkson, a senior at Grayson County High School whose parents are David and Patricia Johnson. She plans to major in Biology.
  • Bethany Lawson of LaGrange, a senior at Oldham County High School whose parents are Linda M. Lawson and Robin H. Lawson. She is undecided on a major.
  • Seth McDowell of Bardstown, a senior at Bethlehem High School whose parents Pat and Connie McDowell. He plans to major in History and Environmental Studies.
  • Margo McGehee of Erlanger, a senior at Dixie Heights High School whose parents are Kerry and Michelle McGehee. She is undecided on a major.
  • Erik Mikulcik of Murray, a senior at Calloway County High School whose parent is David Mikulcik. He plans to major in Chemistry and Horticulture.
  • Travis Ryan of Louisville, a senior at DuPont Manual High School whose parents are Vincent and Paula Ryan. He plans to major in Political Science.
  • Elizabeth Schaaf of Louisville, a senior at DuPont Manual High School whose parents are David and Jennifer Schaaf. She plans to major in English.
  • Angel Ann Semrick of Bowling Green, a senior at South Warren High School whose parents are Chris and Stephanie Lindsey. She plans to major in Elementary Education.
  • August Snelbaker of Hebron, a senior at Conner High School whose parents are Steve and Shonda Snelbaker. She plans to major in Business Economics.
