The Returned, written by New York Times bestselling author Jason Mott and the inspiration for the new television fantasy/drama series Resurrection, is this year’s choice by the Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners for SOKY Reads!, a communitywide reading project in Bowling Green and the surrounding region.
Publishers Weekly says, “In his exceptional debut novel, poet Mott brings drama, pathos, joy, horror, and redemption to a riveting tale of how the contemporary world handles the inexplicable reappearance of the dead.”
To kick off SOKY Reads!, book giveaways will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Bob Kirby Branch of Warren County Public Library during the Regional Authors Showcase. Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College will host a book giveaway at the Main Campus from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Sept. 10, and additional book giveaways will take place at both the Main Branch and at the Bob Kirby Branch of Warren County Public Library at 4 p.m. Sept. 11.
Mott will be offering two programs on Oct. 16 that are open to the public. He will be presenting a session on a writing topic at WKU’s campus in Cherry Hall from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and he will be talking about The Returned at the Bob Kirby Branch at 6 p.m. Copies of Mott’s newest title, The Wonder of All Things, will also be available to purchase during the 6 p.m. presentation.
