If you saw about 50 men walking around WKU’s campus in high heels this week, there’s a very good explanation. Amy Bingham has it in this week’s View from the Hill.
WKU’s Interfraternity Council hosted the fourth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event March 18 as 46 male students and faculty signed on to walk a mile in high heeled shoes around WKU’s campus.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is the international men’s march to raise awareness for rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Walking in high heeled shoes symbolizes men putting themselves in “her” shoes and taking a stance against gender violence. This year’s walk helped generate more than $1,100 to be donated to Hope Harbor Inc. a sexual trauma recovery center, in Bowling Green.
The walk started at 10:45 a.m. at Centennial Mall and concluded in Centennial Mall with a end of walk celebration at 11:45 a.m. Event sponsors included Counseling and Testing Center, Student Unions, Housing and Residence Life, and the WKU Panhellenic Association.
