WKU 2013 Mainstage season closes with ‘WinterDance’ Nov. 22-24

WinterDance, A Holiday Extravaganza, featuring the ballet Cinderella with music by Prokofiev, will close the WKU Department of Theatre and Dance 2013 Mainstage season Nov. 22-24 at Van Meter Hall.

Cinderella posterThe WKU dancers will bring enchantment to the stage as they tell the classic tale of Cinderella and her Prince Charming.

Nathan Fister, a junior from Lexington who plays Prince Charming, is looking forward to the performance. “I am excited for WinterDance because it is the first time of the school year that we get to perform on Western’s campus,” Fister said. “We are performing in beautiful Van Meter Hall, which is also very exciting. “

Also featured in WinterDance are whimsical dances set to your holiday favorites, such as a tap dance quintet set to Carol of the Bells by The Piano Guys and a modern jazz dance set to a “souped up” version of Sleigh Ride by The Brian Setzer Orchestra.

Future dance stars can share the stage at the Sunday performance on Nov. 24.  Children 12 and under attending the Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. are invited to dress in their best princess or prince outfit and take part in the Princess and Prince Parade across the stage at intermission. The first 150 will receive a coupon for a free Frosty, redeemable at any area Wendy’s.

The Sunday afternoon audience also will have the chance to participate in a fundraiser. The WKU student chapter of the National Dance Education Organization will be offering pictures with Cinderella and her Prince after the show for $5. Proceeds will be used to support student travel to the 2014 American College Dance Festival and a study abroad program in Italy.

At each show, the WKU Costume Shop will be selling ornaments, made of extra fabric from this year’s Mainstage costumes, for $5.

WinterDance, A Holiday Extravaganza will be performed at 8 p.m. Nov. 22-23 and 3 p.m. Nov. 24 in Van Meter Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased in advance at wku.showare.com or by calling the box office at (270) 745-3121.
