WKU is supersizing Homecoming Friday Night on Oct. 25.
“WKU has an outstanding Homecoming Day atmosphere, but we want it to be more than a one-day event,” said Ginny Hensley, director of Alumni Programming. “Our goal is for Homecoming Friday Night to give alumni a reason to pack a lot of Hilltopper Red, take a vacation day on Friday, and make Homecoming a weekend-long celebration.”
In recent years, Homecoming Friday Night has featured the parade from campus to downtown Bowling Green followed by a concert and Big Red’s Roar. In addition to those events, this year’s Friday night festivities will include the Homecoming concert at Diddle Arena featuring country performers Justin Moore and special guest Corey Smith. Moore’s hits include Til My Last Day, Point At You, Small Town USA, Bait a Hook and Backwoods. His new album Off The Beaten Path will be released on Sept. 17.
Homecoming concert tickets will go on sale Sept. 13 at the WKU Ticket Office in Diddle Arena. Student tickets start at $25 and non-student tickets start at $35. The concert will begin at 8 p.m.
“We want Homecoming to be more than a Saturday celebration,” Hensley said. “Homecoming Friday Night has become a great community event and is fun for all members of the WKU Family. The city of Bowling Green is incredibly supportive of WKU. Homecoming is not just a campus celebration, but it’s a community celebration.”
The theme of the 2013 Homecoming celebration Oct. 21-27 is “Bright Lights, Red City!” The Hilltoppers will face Troy in the Homecoming football game at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
The complete Homecoming schedule will be available soon on the Alumni Association website and in the upcoming issue Spirit magazine, but here are the Homecoming Friday Night highlights:
