WKU’s Center for Faculty Development (CFD) has named Dr. Jerry Daday as the Interim Executive Director.
CFD is a newly created center that provides and facilitates services to support the scholarly and pedagogical work of faculty, the mentorship of new faculty, and the mentorship and training of graduate students who serve as graduate assistant instructors (GAIs) and graduate teaching assistants (GTAs).
According to Daday, the role of CFD is to support faculty in all aspects of their work in teaching, learning, research and growth. He plans to spend the next several weeks meeting with faculty to find out what their professional development needs are.
“I really want this to be a grass-roots initiative: to be faculty-driven and meet the professional development needs of all WKU faculty,” he said. “Faculty are already doing great things on this campus through their research and teaching. The CFD was created to support faculty in all of these activities. We will put an emphasis on faculty development and support the things that faculty do best.”
The Center is divided into three units: Learning Analytics & Professional Development, Innovations in Teaching, Learning & Technology and Best Practices in Mentoring & College Teaching.
The Learning Analytics & Professional Development unit supports faculty scholarship and the assessment of teaching and learning. This unit promotes and coordinates workshops, training, and mentoring for faculty in the areas of competitive grant writing, effective communication of scholarly work, establishing and enhancing collaborations with business and industry, the development and management of intellectual property, and preparation for tenure and promotion. Additionally, the CFD assists faculty in the development of research designs for program and/or course evaluation.
The Innovations in Teaching, Learning & Technology unit focuses on new designs and innovative teaching strategies through technology tools that enhance and support learning, promote ADA compliance, copyright compliance and the use of the Quality Matters program.
Through the Best Practices in Mentoring & College Teaching (BPMCT) unit, instructors, graduate students and new faculty receive training and frameworks for mentoring, support structures and college teaching skills development.
“We will also provide mentorship for new faculty, and the BPMCT program will provide mentorship and training for graduate students wishing to serve as instructors in intro courses,” he added.
Daday received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of New Mexico and joined WKU in 2004. Throughout his tenure, Daday has served as the Director of the WKU Social Science Research Center (SSRC), the Graduate Advisor in the Department of Sociology, a co-chair and member of the Research and Creative Activity Program (RCAP) committee, a member of the University Benefits Advisory Committee, the University Athletics Committee and a member of the University Senate.
He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of DELO’s Online Learning Research Office, and he continue to fulfill these roles as well.

The CFD is a unit of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO) and partners closely with the Graduate School, Distance Learning, the Office of Research, and Office of Sponsored Programs, Academic Technology, and College Dean’s Offices and Academic Units to provide these services for faculty and graduate students at WKU.
