WKU to offer non-credit photography course through American Southwest

Photography enthusiasts are invited to join WKU Photographer Clinton Lewis on a trip through the American Southwest to explore some of the most breathtaking national parks and protected areas in the country.

The eight-day camping trip is offered through the WKU Study Away’s “American Traveler” program that offers unique, non-credit travel opportunities to WKU friends, parents, alumni and others. Participants will travel and camp with WKU students and learn how to photograph the area’s wild lands and turn images into art.

Travel will begin in Albuquerque on Aug. 3 and end Aug. 11. The trip will include stops at the Petrified Forest National Park, Crater Volcano National Monument, Grand Canyon National Park, Little Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and more.

“Participants will really get their hands dirty,” said Lewis, who described the trip as an “intense outdoor experience.”

The group will hike, camp and cook outside throughout most of the trip. “It’s a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience photographing some of the most amazing landscapes around and walking in the footsteps of one of my photographic heroes, Ansel Adams,” he added.

The cost of the trip is estimated at $1,188 and includes lodging, fees and ground transportation. Fees do not include meals or airfare to and from Albuquerque.

Spaces are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so contact WKU Study Away early to reserve your space. A variety of equipment will also be required. Visit www.wku.edu/studyaway/nationalparkphoto for more information or contact Jerry Barnaby at jerry.barnaby@wku.edu.
