Passport Day at WKU a success

Officials with the United States Postal Service and WKU are pleased with last week’s Passport Day activities, which included the processing of 44 applications.

Passport Day at WKU was termed a success with 44 applications processed.

The event, sponsored by the Study Abroad and Global Learning Office at WKU, resulted in 35 first-time applications with 34 passport photos and nine renewal applications.

Debbie Harper, passport acceptance agent with USPS, called the event “a great success. Our Postmaster was very pleased as well.”

She added that students seemed to think more about passports in the spring.

Thomas Millington, director of Study Abroad and Global Learning, said WKU plans to make Passport Day an annual event.

Fewer than 25 percent of Kentuckians own a passport. “I hope we can improve Kentucky’s ranking among the states in terms of passport ownership,” Dr. Millington said.
