Annual String Explosion music camp scheduled for June 22-25 at WKU

WKU’s Music Department and Office of Continuing Education are pleased to host the annual String Explosion music camp.

This summer camp for area violin, viola, cello and double bass students in fourth through ninth grade will be held June 22 through June 25 in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center on the campus of WKU. A final performance for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. June 25 in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Patrick O’Rourke, who has served as co-director of the camp for several years, is looking forward to this year’s camp. “String Explosion is really going to be a blast this summer,” he said. “Every year the camp gets bigger and better.”

String Explosion is geared toward learning in an orchestra setting. Participants will be divided into orchestras based on their skill level. They will gain new skills and improve their playing through a variety of activities including string orchestra, sectionals, group classes and outdoor games.

For those registering by April 30, the registration fee for the String Explosion camp is $60. After this date all registrations will cost $75. The camp fee includes a T-shirt, music and instructor fees.
