The L.I.V.E. (Let’s Immunize Very Early) Coalition sponsored a contest for all faculty and staff in the Warren County Public School System. The goal of the contest was to increase the number of faculty and staff who received the seasonal flu vaccine. Money was used as the incentive to reach the goal.
The Vaccinate Your Staff Contest was conducted between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30. All flu shots were given on site by the Gold Sponsor, WKU’s Institute for Rural Health Development and Research, which provided the vaccine and the staff to administer the shots on site at each school. The L.I.V.E. Coalition coordinated this project.
Winners of the 11 cash prizes of $50 each were: Stephanie Dennehy, Warren East Middle School; Joelene Martin, Drakes Creek Middle School; Eileen Embry, Rockfield Elementary School; Dale Phelps, Henry Moss Middle School; Anita Grinstead, North Warren Elementary School; Cameron Jourden, Bristow Elementary School; Lori Foust, Greenwood High School; Abby Watkins, Rich Pond Elementary School; Travis Reeves, Warren East High School; Kathy Morgan, Warren Elementary School; and Dana Burnett, Warren Central High School.
Lucy Juett, director of the South Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center, said that of the 901 who participated in the contest, nearly 47 percent did not get a flu shot last year. “This contest may not account for all of the increase, but it was a factor,” she said. “The convenience of administering the shots on site at each school is another factor in the number of people who participated.”
