Ninety students from seven high schools got a snapshot of college life June 4-5 during the GEAR UP Summer Camp at WKU.

The students, who will be 10th graders this fall, have been involved in the GEAR UP project for three years. The students are from Barren County High School, Breckinridge High School, Frederick Fraize High School, Cumberland County High School, Edmonson County High School, Glasgow High School and Todd County High School.

“This is their opportunity to stay on campus overnight in a residence hall, eat at the university cafeteria, walk across campus to various classes, and use the recreational facilities at WKU just like a college student,” said Mike Hughes, project coordinator at the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative. “They will also be taking part in team building and leadership sessions. Our aim is to make them aware of the importance of a college education and to realize college is both attainable and affordable. They are encouraged to take this knowledge back to their school and share with other students in their school. WKU is great to allow our grant and these students this chance to come to campus for this experience.”
