For the third consecutive year, WKU’s Greentoppers for Sustainability will host the Earth Day Festival on Wednesday (April 22).
The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Downing University Center South Lawn. Campus organizations and local businesses will be represented and local bands will perform.
The winners of the “How Would You Green WKU” student competition for innovation in sustainability also will be announced during the Earth Day Festival at 2 p.m., and the WKU University Bookstore will be drawing for a free scooter donated by Mike’s Cycle World at 2:20 p.m.
“The goal of this event is to inform the students and the Bowling Green community about what we can do to make our community more sustainable, how we can be active in that process, and to celebrate Earth Day together,” said Kristen Houser, Secretary-Treasurer of the Greentoppers.
Groups represented at the festival include Greentoppers, Big Red Bikes, Americans for Informed Democracy, Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition, University Bookstore, Blackbird Fashions, Aramark, Greener Groundz, Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, SKY Farmer’s Market, GO BG Transit, Geology Club and many more. Local bands performing include Aaron Clark (11 a.m.), Poser Poet (noon), and The Budget Band (1 p.m.), plus a special surprise finale (beginning at 2:30 p.m.).
