WKU’s pre-college string development program provides strings instruction on cello, violin, viola and double bass to students in the county schools as well as to students who take private lessons. Both groups have upcoming recitals as well as a holiday concert.
A cello recital, given by students in the private lessons program, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 12). A violin/viola recital is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 5. The recitals will be held at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall on the campus of WKU.
Students in the county schools strings program will give a concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Drakes Creek Middle School. They will also hold a Holiday Concert, which will feature the Drakes Creek Middle School orchestra, at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at WKU’s recital hall.
Admission for all events is free to the public.
“Recitals give our students an opportunity to celebrate their hard work with family and friends,” according to Anna Cromwell, violin and viola instructor. “The children experience a wonderful sense of accomplishment afterwards.”
WKU’s Music Department and the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO) developed the pre-college string development program in 2003 to offer high quality instruction in orchestral stringed instruments in a nurturing environment.
