Several events coming up Oct. 19 on WKU’s main campus

WKU’s main campus in Bowling Green will be filled with special events, activities and visitors on Saturday (Oct. 19).

The Medical Center 10K Classic

The Medical Center 10K Classic will begin and end on the WKU campus. Several streets near campus will be closed Saturday morning.

The Medical Center 10K Classic will begin and end on the WKU campus. Several streets will be closed Saturday morning.

The 34th annual event will begin on University Boulevard and end at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium. Many streets near the WKU campus to downtown Bowling Green will be closed for the event. (More: WKU’s 10K Classic access maplist of 10K Street closings) The 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 1.5 Mile Fun Walk at 7:50 a.m., 10K Wheelchair Race at 8:25 a.m. and the Medical Center 10K Classic at 8:30 a.m. The Children’s Classic will begin at 10:15 a.m. near the stadium. Scrapbook Preservation Workshop

WKU Special Collections Library will host Caring for Historic Scrapbooks with Jennifer Hain Teper from 9 a.m. to noon at the Kentucky Museum. The workshop will address preservation challenges for historic scrapbooks. Participants will be given simple methods to assist with handling and long-term storage of their valuable and unique artifacts. Teper is Head of Conservation and Preservation for the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. For more, visit http://wp.me/pi4mf-5RW

 

Music and Theatre events

WKU’s Music Department will host Flute Day events featuring guest artist Tacy Edwards from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a recital at 11:30 a.m. at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall; and a student recital by Conner Eisenmenger at 7 p.m. at Music Hall’s Choral Rehearsal Hall.

WKU’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present The Arkansaw Bear, the opening production of its 2013 Children’s Theatre Series, at 3 p.m. at Gordon Wilson Hall’s Lab Theatre. For more about this weekend’s show, visit http://wp.me/pi4mf-5Ub

Hilltopper Hysteria

Hysteria Poster The annual tip-off to Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball seasons begins at 6 p.m. at E.A. Diddle Arena. Admission and parking are free for everyone. The first 500 fans will receive a free Hilltopper Hysteria T-shirt as they enter the arena courtesy of Coca-Cola and WKU Athletics. Hilltopper Hysteria includes individual player and coach introductions for both programs, scrimmages by both teams, a slam dunk contest and an autograph session. Hilltopper Hysteria also features performances from the Topperettes and the nationally-ranked WKU Cheerleaders, plus Big Red.
