WKU Academic Quiz teams finished first and second in the University of Kentucky Collegiate Novice Tournament in Lexington.
The Sept. 21 tournament was reserved for first-year players as 10 teams from five schools competed.
WKU freshman Ella Shipp of Owensboro was the overall leading scorer at the tournament and led the WKU A team to a 9-0 record. The WKU B team finished second with a 7-2 record.
Vanderbilt University placed third followed by the University of Louisville A team and the University of Kentucky C team.
Other WKU A team members are: Terence Donohue of Radcliff; Kassie Tuck of Franklin; and Mark Reeves of Louisville.
WKU B team members are: Austin Smith of LaGrange (the tournament’s second overall leading scorer behind Shipp); Ben Guthrie of Bowling Green; Nitin Krishra of Corbin; and Ajit Deshpande of LaGrange.
The team advisor is Dr. Guy Jordan, associate professor of Art History in WKU’s Art Department.
Last spring, the WKU Academic Competition Club qualified for the national quiz bowl tournament for the first time in school history.
