For the past nine years, Garcia has served as director of Imagewest, a student-run, revenue-generating, full-service advertising and public relations agency in WKU’s School of Journalism & Broadcasting.

“I am very proud of what we have accomplished at Imagewest. It has been a challenging, life-changing yet rewarding experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with talented, hard-working and passionate students,” Garcia said. “Although I am filled with mixed emotions, I am very excited about this new opportunity to assist the regional campuses in reaching their goals. I can’t wait to jump in and get started.”

In her new role, Garcia will be responsible for marketing planning and execution, social media strategy, special events, and website content for WKU’s Regional Campuses in Glasgow, Elizabethtown and Owensboro.

“The experience Heather brings to this position is phenomenal. I have no doubt that she’ll jump right in and have an immediate positive impact at all three Regional Campuses,” said Stacey Biggs, chief marketing officer. “We’re excited for her to join the Public Affairs team.”

Garcia is a 1998 WKU graduate with a bachelor’s degree in advertising with a minor in marketing. Before joining Imagewest, she was business manager for Western Place in Bowling Green and vice president of client relations for The Maverick Group in Nashville, Tenn.

Imagewest will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014. Under Garcia’s leadership, the agency provided hands-on, professional experience for 270 students, won numerous awards, made six international trips, and worked with campus and community groups on public relations, marketing, and other projects.

Summer Bolton, assistant manager/art director, and Mark Simpson, faculty advisor and associate professor in advertising in WKU’s School of Journalism & Broadcasting, will manage Imagewest during the search for a new manager. “Summer and Mark have assisted at the agency in various capacities since 2004. With their leadership, I am confident that the agency will continue on as usual while maintaining Imagewest’s unique culture, traditions, and spirit,” Garcia said.
