WKU now offers a new coaching course through Independent Learning (IL). PE 343 – Baseball Coaching teaches the fundamentals of coaching, schedule making and rules & problems in training and conditioning.
Joel Murrie, a 30-year baseball veteran, will teach the course online via Blackboard. Murrie holds the record for leading the WKU Hilltopper baseball team to 815 victories, the most ever by a WKU coach in a single sport. He has earned conference coach of the year honors four times and was the NCAA South Region Coach of the Year in 1980. He is in his seventh year of professional baseball with the Los Angeles Angels as an amateur scout.
Assistant Director of Distance Learning Amanda McGaughey said that adding the course through IL means that students will now be able to register any time on demand and take the course in a self-paced online format.
“Independent Learning is dedicated to providing a variety of courses in a self-paced platform to students, and we are excited to offer this course through IL,” McGaughey said. “We are also honored to have an instructor with such impressive baseball experience. It’s one more opportunity for WKU to offer outstanding courses to students with busy schedules and additional obligations other than school.”
