Patti Shields has been named program manager of the WKU Office of Career & Workforce Development, a unit of Extended Learning & Outreach (DELO). She will be responsible for analyzing local business training needs and developing new corporate training programs and courses.
With numerous years of experience as a small business owner and corporate trainer, Shields said she understands the changing needs of businesses, as well as the importance of keeping up with current trends. “I want to bring innovative, cutting-edge programs to businesses,” she said.
Her first two goals are to offer new training programs through expanded media sources and to reach out to more diverse businesses such as healthcare, finance, education and government. “I plan to expand our reach to include all types of businesses throughout the region,” Shields said.
Associate Vice President, Extended Learning & Outreach Beth Laves said Shields brings the experience she was looking for to expand this program within WKU Continuing & Professional Development. “Patti brings experience working with a variety of large and small businesses, as well as a wealth of new ideas,” Laves said. “We are excited to see where her leadership takes the program.”
Shields received her B.A. in management entrepreneurship from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. She owned a small business that provided corporate training and needs assessment for local businesses, colleges/universities and consortiums.
