SOKY Children’s Chorus, an ensemble music education program for grades 4-7, is gearing up for the spring 2013 season. The mission of the Chorus is to provide age-appropriate music education through rehearsals and performances of quality music literature.
The program is designed to supplement existing school and church programs in the area by expanding students’ knowledge of choral literature and provides them with additional local and regional performance opportunities. This fall, students performed with the Southern Kentucky Choral Society.
WKU Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Jennifer Adam coordinates the program. “The Chorus fosters personal, social and musical growth for each student,” said Adam, who directs the program’s rehearsals and performances. She also enlists qualified WKU students to assist with the program. Music majors help with rehearsals, recitals and concerts. Music education students serve as assistant directors and accompanists.
Spring auditions will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Knicely Conference Center on WKU’s South Campus. The program will run Feb. 12-April 23 with rehearsals Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in downtown Bowling Green. Performances are scheduled for March 24 and April 21.
Program fees are $150 per semester. WKU alumni, faculty and staff receive a $25 discount. There is also a $25 second-child discount. Audition pre-registration is available by calling (270) 745-1912.
