Forensics team competes in Nashville

Members of the WKU forensics team traveled to Nashville, Tenn., on Nov. 10-11 to compete in two tournaments co-hosted by Belmont University and Carson-Newman College.

WKU placed second in team sweepstakes at the Carson-Newman tournament and second in overall team sweepstakes for the two tournaments combined. Other top ranking schools included University of Alabama, Miami University and Belmont University.

Next weekend some team members will travel to the University of Akron to compete in two more tournaments.

Individual results for the Belmont/Carson-Newman Tennessee Porch Swing are as follows:

  • Ray Roberts, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, tournament champion in prose interpretation and tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Lindsey White, a junior from St. Paul, Minn., tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation in the Belmont tournament; second in programmed oral interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Sarah Brazier, a senior from Wadsworth, Ohio, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation and fourth in communication analysis in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Layton Garlington, a junior from Ruston, La., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Tiffany McLarty) and fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament; second in dramatic interpretation and fourth in prose interpretation in the Belmont tournament.
  • Emma Wilczynski, a junior from Florence, tournament champion in informative speaking in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Tiffany McLarty, a sophomore from Bronx, N.Y., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Layton Garlington) in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Gabriella Devia-Allen, a junior from Davie, Fla., second in dramatic interpretation, third in impromptu speaking, fourth in prose interpretation and fourth in duo interpretation (with Jamaque Newberry) in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Elle Pratt, a junior from Fullerton, Calif., second in informative speaking and third in dramatic interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Ashton Garber, a freshman from Osprey, Fla., second in poetry interpretation and sixth in dramatic interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Jamaque Newberry, a sophomore from Tamarac, Fla., second in after-dinner speaking and fourth in duo interpretation (with Gabriella Devia-Allen) in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Haddy Badjie, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, third in poetry interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Janniqua Dawkins, a sophomore from Hollywood, Fla., third in communication analysis in the Carson-Newman tournament.
  • Justin Rodriguez, a junior from Coos Bay, Ore., fourth in persuasive speaking and fifth in dramatic interpretation in the Belmont tournament.
  • Marshall Covert, a junior from St. Paul, Minn., fifth in prose interpretation in the Carson-Newman tournament.
