Amy Eckhardt, former director of the Office of Scholar Development at WKU, and WKU have signed a settlement and release agreement which effectively concludes two civil suits filed against WKU by Eckhardt — in Warren Circuit Court on June 29, 2011, and in the U.S. District Court on June 7, 2012.
Eckhardt’s attorney contacted WKU’s attorney several weeks ago and indicated Eckhardt wished to dismiss the pending legal action. Both parties signed the agreement, which was filed with both courts Thursday.
“This withdrawal was initiated completely by Ms. Eckhardt,” Deborah Wilkins, WKU’s Chief of Staff and General Counsel, said. “WKU did not offer to or pay Ms. Eckhardt any money in exchange for her withdrawal. Although it is unusual for a plaintiff to voluntarily withdraw and release a civil suit, her actions in doing so support the position WKU has taken from the outset – there was no legitimacy to her allegations regarding Honors College Director Craig Cobane.”
Eckhardt was dismissed from her position in April 2011.
