Three WKU teams have qualified for the Collegiate Golf Alliance’s 2012 National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas.
Two-time defending national champions Matt Morrison and Adam Whitt will represent WKU in the faculty/staff division for the fourth consecutive year, while Joseph Stumph of Cave City and Taylor Richard of Owensboro qualified in the student division for the second straight year. Mike Huffine of Greenbrier, Tenn., and Derek Schmitz of Nolensville, Tenn., first-time participants in the local qualifying tournament, will represent WKU in the alumni/community division.
The 2012 NCGC will be held Nov. 9-11 at Paiute Golf Resort.
WKU teams have a tradition of success in the NCGC tourney. In addition to winning two consecutive national titles, Whitt and Morrison were runners-up in 2009. In the faculty/staff division, WKU teams also won the title in 2006, were runners-up in 2007 and finished third in 2008. In 2009, WKU teams finished as runners-up in the student division and fifth in the alumni/community division.
In the student division tournament, held Oct. 6 at the Golf Course at Riverview, Andrew Lewis and Neil Fogle placed second followed by Zane Karrer and Nick Sears.
In the alumni/community tournament, held Sept. 28 at Cross Winds Golf Course, Billy Hurt and Steve White placed second followed by Brian Allen and Seth McClain.
