13 new members of Chinese Language Flagship Program begin courses

Thirteen students from across Kentucky have been admitted into the Fall 2012 cohort of the Chinese Language Flagship Program at WKU. This federally funded program, open to all majors, is actively redefining the paradigm of language education.

Designed to bring talented students who begin the program with no knowledge of the Chinese language up to the Superior level (ACTFL scale) of professional proficiency by the time they graduate from college, the intensive program integrates Chinese language instruction at every stage of the undergraduate educational path.

Students in the Flagship program typically study abroad multiple times during their undergraduate careers, including a capstone year at Nanjing University and a professional internship in China.

The Fall 2012 cohort includes:

  • Laurel Clutts of Brandenburg
  • Rebecca Davis of Woodburn
  • Drew Hillebrand of Prospect
  • Colton Hounshell of LaGrange
  • Megan Laffoon of Louisville
  • Evan Mack of Louisville
  • Jacob Marsh of Cynthiana
  • Chelsea McCarty of Bowling Green
  • Hannah Reckart of Oakland
  • Ian Robinson of Union
  • Michael Houston Rose of Butler
  • Alexandra Schulte of Bowling Green
  • Lydia Suh of Bowling Green
