The Center for Gifted Studies hosted the 30th annual Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS) June 10 to June 22, for nearly 200 campers, both residential and non-residential.
Located on the campus of WKU, SCATS provides enhanced learning opportunities for academically talented sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
This summer, young people from 54 Kentucky school districts and six states across the country participated in more than 30 challenging courses. Students chose the four classes that they attended daily at the two-week camp. The Center offered a diverse curriculum encompassing music, science, art, math, history, and acting with classes including Detective Chemistry, Found Object Sculpture, Spanish Art and Architecture, Robot Basics, Lunar Thinking, Amusement Park Physics and more.
When not in class, residential campers participated in a variety of engaging activities, such as film screenings, sports matches, dances, and a talent show. The dates for the 31st year of SCATS are June 9 to June 21, 2013, and the application will be available in mid-January.
