Graduate ceremony begins 2011 Fall Commencement Weekend at WKU

Nine more recipients of a doctoral degree in educational leadership were recognized Friday night as WKU began its 2011 Fall Commencement Weekend.

WKU’s 170th Commencement began with the graduate ceremony in Diddle Arena as more than 250 master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees were conferred.

The newest recipients of the Ed.D., WKU’s first independent doctoral degree, are (click on name to read more about each recipient):

  • Troy Dan Costellow, assistant principal at South Warren Middle School
  • Cindy L. Ehresman, program coordinator at WKU’s Center for Leadership Excellence
  • Tracy Inman, associate director of The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU
  • Penelope S. Logsdon, radiography program director at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College
  • Lee Maglinger, corrections program administrator for the Department for Corrections/Division for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
  • Sheri Roberts McGuffin, math/computer science instructor at Nelson County High School
  • Donna Renaud, instructor in WKU’s Department of Communication
  • Leigh Anne Roden, speech-language pathologist and literacy lab coordinator for Barren County Schools
  • Thomas Stewart, secondary supervisor of instruction/director of assessment and personnel for Logan County Schools

Dr. Michael Ann Williams, head of the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology and a nationally known, award-winning folklore scholar, was the featured speaker at the graduate ceremony. Dr. Williams has served as a mentor to numerous WKU graduate students.

WKU President Gary Ransdell also delivered congratulatory remarks to the graduates.

WKU’s 170th Commencement continues with the undergraduate ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at Diddle Arena. WKU is conferring degrees to nearly 1,200 graduate and undergraduate students this weekend.
