In an effort to promote the Advertising and Public Relations (Ad+PR) programs at WKU, the School of Journalism and Broadcasting has partnered with Imagewest, a student-run advertising and public relations agency, to present a Halloween Costume Contest and Catwalk.
The contest will take place at Centennial Mall, near Downing University Center, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (Oct. 31) and is open to all WKU students, faculty and staff.
“We really wanted a fun and creative way to showcase all the exciting things going on in the Advertising and Public Relations programs including our work at Imagewest,” said Heather Garcia, agency director. “The students were very excited when we presented the idea to them and thought what better time to celebrate creativity than the most outrageous holiday of the year.”
Outrageous is encouraged, as participants will be judged on the creativity of their costumes, as well as their poise on the catwalk. Participants will have an opportunity to strut their stuff down a 24-foot runway.
The first 100 participants will receive a goodie bag. More than $500 in prizes, sponsored by Shogun of Bowling Green, will be awarded including $100 to the first place winner, $50 to second place and $25 to third place. An additional $50 People’s Choice Award will be given to the participant who receives the most student votes.
Organizations are encouraged to participate and $250 will be awarded to the group with the largest percentage of participation versus their size.
“I think this contest is not only a fun way to show people what our programs are all about, but it is also a great opportunity for organizations to get involved,” said Paige Johnson, president of the American Advertising Federation student chapter at WKU. “Our student advertising club members are planning on entering; $250 would be great to put toward our annual trip.”
In addition to the costume contest, there will also be games, music and a $50 raffle.
