Eleven members of the WKU forensic team traveled to Berea to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Oct. 22-23.
WKU advanced all students to elimination rounds and collected three individual championships. WKU also received second place in team sweepstakes in the portion of the tournament hosted by the University of the Cumberlands and third place in the Berea portion. Other schools rounding out the top spots included Tennessee State University and George Mason University.
Next weekend, the team will split to travel in three directions. Some team members will travel to the University of Nebraska in Omaha, others to Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., while others will attend a tournament at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
Results from the Berea College/ University of Cumberlands Tournament are as follows:
- Ian Dowty, a freshman from Valley Center, Kan., tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and fifth in informative speaking in the Berea portion; second in informative speaking and second in after-dinner speaking in the Cumberlands portion.
- John Reynolds, a sophomore from Harlingen, Texas, tournament champion in informative speaking and fifth in prose interpretation in the Berea portion; fourth in informative speaking, fifth in prose interpretation in the Cumberlands portion.
- Lindsey White, a sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., tournament champion in informative speaking and sixth in programmed oral interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; fourth in programmed oral interpretation in the Berea portion.
- Layton Garlington, a sophomore from Ruston, La., second in communication analysis and fourth in prose interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; third in communication analysis and fourth in prose interpretation in the Berea portion.
- Nicki Seay, a freshman from Crofton, second in persuasive speaking and fifth in communication analysis in the Cumberlands portion.
- Mitchell Grogg, a junior from Evansville, Ind., third in impromptu speaking and fifth in extemporaneous speaking in the Cumberlands portion; semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Berea portion.
- Taylor Hilton, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., third in programmed oral interpretation in the Berea portion.
- Alexander Wozencraft, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., fifth in poetry interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; fifth in poetry interpretation in the Berea portion.
- Emma Wilczynski, a sophomore from Florence, sixth in duo interpretation (with Justin Rodriguez) in the Cumberlands portion.
- Justin Rodriguez, a sophomore from Coos Bay, Ore., sixth in duo interpretation (with Emma Wilczynski) in the Cumberlands portion.
- Ellis Fraser, a freshman from Hodgenville, semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Berea portion.
