4 WKU students receive KBA scholarships

Four WKU students have received the Harry Barfield scholarship award, which provides a $2,500 scholarship renewable for a second year.

Two WKU students renewing their scholarships are Jacob Ryle of Burlington and Matthew Wagner of Villa Hills. Two WKU students who are first time award recipients are Cameron Epperson of Louisville and Brianne Kelley of Massilon, Ohio.

Since KBA was founded 20 years ago, the program has awarded scholarships to students in Kentucky colleges who show promise in the field of broadcast journalism. Students receive scholarships based on academic achievement, a faculty recommendation and extracurricular activities.

The scholarship program is named for Harry Barfield, the late president and chairman of WLEX-TV in Lexington.

Gary White, the president and CEO of KBA, said the program has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships since 1992.

“The Kentucky Broadcasters Association is proud to be able to help these talented students pursue their higher education,” White said. “Many of these recipients have gone on to successful careers in broadcasting.”
