WKU’s 2011 Homecoming activities in October will have a New Orleans flavor with a dash of Mardi Gras and some Cajun spice.
“Geaux Toppers!” was chosen as the Homecoming theme for activities the week of Oct. 17-23 because the Hilltoppers will host Louisiana-Lafayette’s Ragin’ Cajuns in the Homecoming football game on Oct. 22 at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
“We are continuing to develop plans for the various Homecoming events, but expect a lot of Mardi Gras beads and crawfish to appear throughout Homecoming Week,” said Ginny Hensley, director of Alumni Programming and chair of the Homecoming Committee.
The theme was selected after the Homecoming Committee narrowed a list of 25 potential Homecoming themes to their four top choices, Hensley said. “We then allowed students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to cast their votes for two weeks on the Alumni Association website, through Facebook and Twitter. ‘Geaux Toppers!’ narrowly edged ‘#Winning’ by less than 10 votes,” she said.
Additional information on Homecoming 2011 will be available in WKU Spirit magazine later this summer and on the WKU Alumni Association website.
